Current Roster and Program Needs:
Immediate Needs – 2012
- The Johnnies have only seven scholarship players on the roster and need to address several areas for next season. With the addition of Texas A&M transfer Jamal Branch for next December, they appear to have solved their point guard problem. The Johnnies have a number of young off guards and wing players in Moe Harkless, D'Angelo Harrison, Sir'Dominic Pointer and Amir Garrett, yet St. John's lacks depth and size in the frontcourt. Thus, they are focused on players like 6-8 JaKarr Sampson, 6-8 Ricardo Gathers, 6-9 Chris Obekpa and 6-9 Orlando Sanchez, all of whom will sign late.
Longer Term Needs – 2013
- St. John's must continue to add to its roster going forward and is targeting several local players, including 6-9 forward Jermaine Lawrence, who recently left Queens Cardozo for Pope John (Sparta, N.J.), and Philly Vaux Roberts point guard Rysheed Jordan.
2014 Targets
- Isaiah Whitehead, 6'4", SG, Brooklyn Lincoln
