Current Roster and Program Needs:
Immediate Needs – 2012
- With the Tar Heels set to loose frontcourt players Harrison Barnes, John Henson and Tyler Zeller to the NBA Draft, they have somewhat addressed their needs with the additions of Brice Johnson, an athletic forward who could be a smaller version of Henson, and big man Joel James. In the backcourt, Kendall Marshall could also go pro, but both Dexter Strickland and Leslie McDonald should return OK from injuries. P.J. Hairston and Reggie Bullock will both be asked to score a lot more assuming both return.
Longer Term Needs – 2013
- The Heels need a big-time scoring wing in this class and are targeting Julius Randle, the No. 3 player in the class behind Jabari Parker and Nerlens Noel. Randle could change the whole dynamic of the Carolina team in 2013, but of course he has a number of elite suitors. Virginia wing Troy Williams has the Heels among his Final Four, along with Kentucky, Georgetown and Villanova.
- Carolina also has point guard Nate Britt and big man Isaiah Hicks on board for 2013, with Britt saying he's looking forward to playing with 2012 point guard commit Marcus Paige.
