Alex Poythress Trims List to Four
6-8 forward is down to UK, Vandy, Memphis and Florida
Alex Poythress, the Rivals No. 8 power forward in the Class of 2012, has trimmed his list to four schools.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Poythress out of Clarksville (TN) Northeast is considering Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Memphis and Florida.
He broke down each school briefly Monday during a phone interview with FiveStarBasketball.com.
"Kentucky is a good school," he said. "I like their offense. Coach Cal [John Calipari] is a good coach. He's a pretty good guy. He knows what he's talking about. He's been around basketball a long time.
"Vandy has been recruiting me for a long time. I'm close with the coaching staff.
"Memphis is a basketball city. I like how it's a basketball city and they play uptempo ball.
"And Florida is a good school. Coach [Billy] Donovan is a good coach. I like how they use their wings."
Duke was on his original list of five but is now out of the mix.
"Actually, they said they weren't recruiting me anymore," he said. "They sent me an email saying they were going to back out of recruiting me so I said, 'OK.'"
Poythress will visit Florida this weekend, along with fellow big men Jarnell Stokes of Memphis and Brice Johnson of South Carolina.
Poythress then visits Kentucky Oct. 15 for Big Blue Madness and Memphis Oct. 21. He has already been to Vanderbilt.
He said he has no timetable on a decision.
The trimmed list was first reported by Scout.com.
