Webster-Chan: Mizzou-bound
The CIA Bounce star will be coached by Frank Haith
Negus Webster-Chan is off the board. The 6-6, 175-pound swingman gave a verbal committment to Frank Haith and the Missouri Tigers this morning. Webster-Chan is a three-star recruiting according to Rivals and had a number of schools after his services. Cincinatti, Clemson, Florida State, Marquette, Louisville, Iowa State, Texas, West Virginia were all believed to have offered. Webster-Chan felt his best opportunity, though, was with the Tigers.
"The playing time opportunity is better at Missouri than the rest of the schools I chose," Webster-Chan told the Columbia Tribune.
Similar to Rodney Purvis, Webster-Chan de-committed from Louisville after their were changes in the coaching staff in April. Tim Fuller, who was an assistant at Louisville, now holds a position with Missouri. Instead of following Fuller, Purvis decided to verbally commit to N.C. State last week.
"I had a great relationship with the coach, Coach Haith. I had a strong bond with assistant coach Tim Fuller already," Webster-Chan said.
The committment can open the recruiting door for Haith as Websiter-Chan is a memer of the CIA Bounce travel squad from Canada. Webster-Chan won MVP honors at the All-Canada Classic in June (Canada's version of the McDonald's All-American Game). The swingman suffered a foot fracture while competing in the FIBA U19 World Championship for Canada against host Latvia. He figures to be a big piece of the Huntington Prep squad this upcoming high school season.
Webster-Chan joins forwards Tony Criswell, Quantel Denson, Aaron Scales and guard Shawn Smith in the Tigers 2012 recruiting class.
