WVU working hardest on Mike Young
Coach Huggins and staff want 2013 prospect
JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The parade of coaches coming through Hudson Catholic in recent weeks has included Louisville's Rick Pitino, Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon and West Virginia's Bob Huggins. One of the primary objects of their desire is Mike Young, a rugged 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward from Pittsburgh ranked No. 100 in the Rivals150 for the Class of 2013.
"I'm happy to have a lot of coaches come and see me play and work out," Young told FiveStarBasketball.com Thursday, when Dixon was in the gym. "I'm thankful for having the gifts that I have for them to come and see me play and get some of the scholarships I've been getting."
Young currently holds offers from West Virginia, Baylor, Miami, Pitt, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Florida.
Who's been working the hardest in that group?
"That would have to be West Virginia," he said. "They come every week to the workouts. They call as much as they can. They try to keep me involved in any big events that's going on on campus, and try to see if they can get me down there to come and spend some time with the team and the coaches."fasf
During a visit home to Pittsburgh, Young visited West Virginia for the football opener against Marshall Sept. 4.
"It was a great experience," he said. "I loved it. The town came out. Everybody came to watch the football team and it was a great experience."
Young plans to take all five of his official visits next fall, but says "as far as a commitment I have no clue.'
As for what skill-set he will bring to college, Young said: "I'm trying to be an all-around player, post, mid-post, perimeter. I'm trying to do everything. I bring a lot of versatility. Toughness, rebounding. And I just play hard and play with a chip on my shoulder."
