Poythress pledges Kentucky
Swingman is John Calipari's newest coup
Just when people we worrying about what happened to John Calipari's 2012 recruiting class, he nabs a top player. Alex Poythress, the Rivals No. 8 power forward in the Class of 2012, chose the Wilcats over Vanderbilty, Memphis and Florida.
"Kentucky is a good school," Poythress told Fivestarbasketball in an earlier interview. "I like their offense. Coach Cal [John Calipari] is a good coach. He's a pretty good guy. He knows what he's talking about. He's been around basketball a long time.
The 6-8 swingman joins Five-Star rated Archie Goodwin and big man Willie Cauley in the class. Just last night, Kentucky shooting guard target Gary Harris pledged for Michigan State. Poythress is a do-it-all forward with a developing jump shot. He mainly uses his phsicality when driving to the paint. His skill set is somewhat similar to another target Devonta Pollard so he might be out of the running now. With the addition of the 2012 top recruit, Shabazz Muhammad, Cal might just have another top-tier recruiting performance.
Transfer Ryan Harrow will also be eligible in 2012.
