Jahlil Okafor Impressed by Four Schools
Arizona, Duke, Michigan State and Illinois stand out for the Chicago native
Instead of playing at Duke's Cameron Indoor stadium, the 'Clash at Cameron' tournament was moved to Fayetteville State University to align with NCAA rules -- a disappointment to one of the Blue Devils' top targets, Jahlil Okafor.
"Just playing at Duke," Okafor said. "Knowing all the good players that came through that program. But that opportunity to play there was taken away from us."
Okafor is a highly sought-after sophomore with legit size at 6'10'' and a soft touch around the basket. While he holds offers from many schools, there are four that have impressed him the most: Duke, Arizona, Michigan State and Illinois.
"Duke ... They are known for having shooters," Okafor said. "That just opens me up in the post, so I won't have to deal with double and triple teams."
Development is a key reason behind his fondness of the Wildcats.
"Arizona, they have shown a lot of interest, I really like them," Okafor said. "They told me that Derrick Williams wasn't even in the top 100 when he went there and he was the No. 2 draft pick, so that shows me they know how to develop big men."
UConn, DePaul, Georgetown are some others that have been working on securing his pledge. However, the aforementioned four teams have done the best job so far.
"I wouldn't say they [Duke and Arizona] impress me the most," Okafor said. "But they definitely impressed me along with Michigan State. I really like Tom Izzo, and also Illinois."
