Preview: Hall of Fame California Championship
Basketbull event highlights the best of the west
If you’re looking for good basketball this weekend, the 2012 Hall of Fame California Championship in Corona, Calif. features the circuit’s best of the west.
The Compton Magic send just about every team they have to the tournament, while more than 60 other teams will look to take them down — something a lot easier said than done. Both squads are Five-Star ranked and will look to move up next week. The No. 3 Compton Magic 15s swept through the Arizona Easter Classic a week ago, while the 16th-ranked 17s will be playing their first tournament of the spring.
The Arizona Magic and Belmont Shore are among the other teams in the 17U field that will try to bring home a title. The 17U division is divided into seven pools, with the best team in each pool advancing to the Gold championship.
In the 16U field, the Corona Lakers will look to protect their home court in a pool that also includes MOC Elite and CALI Rebels.
The 16U division will feature two pools of three teams and one of four teams. Each three-team pool will send one team to the Gold championship and the four-team pool will send two teams.
The lower age groups will work in a similar fashion with pool play and single-elimination tournament formats.
Pool play games will take place Friday and Saturday, with the playoffs tipping off on Sunday morning. Games will be spread throughout Corona, and by Sunday night, champions from the 12U-17U fields will be crowned. This will be the fourth year of the Hall of Fame regional event series.
