'Cappin the adidas May Classic
E.G. All-Stars reign supreme in 16U division; Playground Warriors dominate in 17U final.
No 7. EG All-Stars' 2013 IU commit Colin Hartman netted 22 points and Jordan Latham bulldozed his way to 12 points in resounding victory over the Louisville Magic to keep the 16U title in the Hoosier State.
The All-Stars' trip to the finals was sealed by Zak Irvin's buzzer-beater to squeak past BA Hoyas, 59-57, in the tournament semifinals. Louisville scored a narrow semifinal win over Spiece Indy Heat, 62-60, to advance. Lefty slasher, D'Angelo Harrison, had 15 points and highly recruited wing Jordan Swopshire, added 11 points for Louisville.
Heaven's a Playground
Wisconsin Playground Warriors, who earned a seat on this week's "Five-Star Watch List," throttled the Ohio Hoopsters, 70-46, to take home the 17U championship on Sunday. J.P. Tokoto notched 17 points while Tanner Plum and Branson Koenig each contributed 13 points apiece to lead a balanced Warriors' attack.
The Warriors lost do-it-all swingman, Sam Dekker, to an ankle injury in elimination play, but managed to roll over the Eric Gordon All-Stars in the semifinals to earn finale berth. The Ohio Hoopsters path to the tournament's championship game was paved by Richmond commit Andre Yates, who recorded 26 points in a semifinal victory over No. 23 Spiece Indy Heat.
Notes from Bloomington
- Spiece Indy Heat's Jordan Pickell posted 22 points and savvy shooter, Trevon Bluiett, chipped in with 16 points in the 16U semifinal round.
- The 17U final four was very similar to the 16U division. Of the three games, one of them was truly competitive and the other two were in hand from the start.
- As the adidas May Classic wound down Sunday, the crowd on the heart of Indiana University died down a bit as the ousted teams headed home.
