Rumble in the Bronx plays out this weekend from Friday to Sunday.

With IS8 season over, the New York City basketball world now turns its attention to a city competition with a national flavor.

This weekend, 15U, 16U and 17U teams from around the country travel to New York for the annual Rumble in the Bronx, and this year’s field might be one of the best yet.

Pool play games get started Friday night and continue through Saturday, with competition in New Jersey, Manhattan and the Bronx. Bracket play begins Saturday night with each age group crowning its champion on Sunday.

Just who those champions will be, however, is tough to predict.

Chancellor Ellis and Team SCAN are probably the favorites in the 15U field, but they’ll have to battle through some programs with national names in order to take home the championship. Playaz Basketball Club, New Heights, CIA Bounce, BABC and the Long Island Lightning will all be looking to unseat the second-ranked 15U team in the nation.

Team SCAN might also be the favorite to win the 16U tournament, but their competition in that field will be even tougher. The No. 1 15U team in the nation, The City, spends most of its time playing 16U and will do so again this weekend at Rumble. The City almost pulled off the upset against No. 3 BABC last week playing 16U in a Boston tournament.

No. 23 CIA Bounce will also be a force this weekend, and don’t forget about No. 24 Sports U. Both teams are barely hanging on to spots in the Power Rankings, but if either of them win this tournament, they can expect a big jump next week.

But if Sports U. can’t get it done at the 16U level, Hallice Cooke and the Sports U. 17s will also have a shot. New Heights and the Playaz Basketball Club might be Sports U.’s biggest competition there, but don’t count out the New York Gauchos

The Dallas Mustangs, Texas Select and Arkansas Hawks will also be in the 17U field, looking to negate any homecourt advantage that the New York-area teams might have.

If last week’s tournament, featuring the younger age groups, is any indication, you can expect a thrilling weekend in New York.
