Possibly the most exciting summer event in New York tipped off Friday night as the older age groups opened Rumble in the Bronx in gyms around the city.

This weekend, Rumble will crown champions in the 15U, 16U and 17U divisions.

On Friday, Five-Star caught some great 16U action.

No. 4 Team Scan and 15U No. 1 The City did not disappoint (The City is playing up this weekend, competing with the 16s).

With a strong showing from their core trio of Chris McCullough, Conrad Chambers and Shavark Newkirk, Team Scan breezed past its first pool play opponent, the Brooklyn Leaders.

While The City struggled early against a tough NYC Jaguars team, Mike Williams and co. proved to be too much to handle and secured the victory down the stretch.

In other 16U division action:

  • Louisiana Select's Brandon Sheppard displayed a stellar performance in a win over Team Work Basketball, dominating the paint on both ends of the floor. The 6'6’’ forward has interest from LSU and will certainly see a rise in his recruitment come June 15th.
  • Wade Baldwin and Quadri Moore carried No. 24 Sports U. to a win past the Rochester Playmakers. Baldwin, a skilled shooting-guard, was able to aggressively attack the basket and finish with contact while Moore displayed a smooth-stroke from beyond the arc. Baldwin currently holds an offer Seton Hall, while Moore is reported to have an offer from Providence.
  • Team Frenji's Chima Azuonwu is an interesting prospect. The 2014 big man stands at 6'10’’ 250 lbs. with a raw talent. Azuonwu showed signs of promise of Friday, proving to be a force on the low-post while acting as Team Frenji's main focal piece on defense.
