Top HS talent headlines fifth annual adidas global basketball program

Gabe York is just one of the big names heading to SoCal for adidas Nations this weekend.

Adidas today announced the roster for the fifth annual adidas Nations global experience, the premier international grassroots basketball program. Adidas Nations will take place at the HAX Athletic Club in Los Angeles August 5 through 7, with the championship game held at the California State University – Dominguez Hills Torodome on Monday, August 8 at 6 p.m. PST and broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

The country’s top-ranked high school players will participate including Shabazz Muhammad (Bishop Gorman HS/Las Vegas), Andre Drummond (St. Thomas More School/Middleton, CT), Isaiah Austin (Grace Preparatory Academy/Burleson, TX), DaJuan Coleman (Jamesville Dewitt HS/Syracuse, NY), Kyle Anderson (St. Anthony HS/Jersey City, NJ) and Cameron Ridley (Bush HS/Richmond, TX).

Top-rated players will also represent international teams including Emmanuel Mudiay (Grace Prep HS/Africa), Zena Edosmwan (Harvard Westlake HS/Africa), Steven Adams (Scots College/Asia), Wannah Bail (Trent Internationale/Latin American), Ricardo Gathers (Riverside Academy/Latin America ) and Hanner Perea (La Lumiere HS/Latin America). 

The world’s elite 18-and-under players from eight international teams including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, US 2012 and US 2013, will train and compete in the prestigious annual program. This year, the Nations roster expanded to include two additional US teams.

Professional basketball standouts Josh Smith, Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Candace Parker, Arron Afflalo, Wesley Johnson, Quincy Pondexter and Alec Burks and former players and coaches Mike Dunleavy, Kiki Vandeweghe, Alex English and Detlef Schrempf along with more than 30 collegiate players will counsel and mentor players throughout the weekend. 

Adidas Nations emphasizes adidas’ core belief that success in the game of basketball comes from playing as a team. The multi-faceted international curriculum includes expert training and strategy tips, comprehensive workout sessions and scrimmages. Off-court elements essential to all athletes’ success, such as nutritional education, global interactions, leadership and philanthropy are woven into the program’s agenda.

The culmination of adidas Nations will feature a championship and third place game at California State University – Dominguez Hills Torodome, 1000 E. Victoria Street, Carson, CA, 90747. General admission tickets are available at the door for $10.
