Old school powerhouse
25 years ago, New Jersey's Camden High School was the No. 1 team in the nation
When you think of national powerhouse programs at the high school level, several schools quickly come to mind: St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.), Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA), DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, VA), Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, CA) and Findlay Prep (Henderson, NV), among others.
But, back in the '70s and '80s, Camden High School (Camden, N.J.) used to wreck shop on the hardwood. They won seven state titles over that two decade span and finished the '86 season undefeated and ranked No. 1 by USA Today.
1986. That's well before today's high school players were born. No YouTube or player mixtapes, so the footage is rare. Until now. Check out this 25th anniversary look back at the 1986 mythical national champions, the Camden Panthers.
