The Young and the Ageless

The Young and the Ageless - Miami Heat vs L.A. Lakers in June 2013?

October 30, 2012 8:57pm ET

It's something that was around the NBA for a good part of the past decade, when Shaq left the Lakers in 2004 and Kobe was the only franchise player in the Lakers. In the meantime in 2010 the Miami Heat has put together the Trio of Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Lakers, the defending champs, appeared to be the only ones that can take the miami heat Kings. But before we know it, the Dallas Mavericks swept the Lakers to go on and win the title that year. In 2012 the Lakers didn't recover, out of the playoffs in the second round, while miami went on to win the title.

Although both teams have combined to win four of the last 10 NBA championships, but they never met in the Finals. For us fans, we dream it's trying to make that dream come true. There is no NBA executive can realistically say that any team had a better summer than the lakers, landing the assist master Steve Nash, and well.. arguably the best centre in the League Dwight Howard. L.A now became a powerhouse once again expected to take over the West and counterbalance the East. Even Sports Illustrated calls them : One New King of the West.

In short The Heat after a great run last year, they are confident and matter of fact they are good. On the other hand The Lakers are really good now, too.

But let's admit it what we are all excited about is that we might get to see Kobe Bryant and LeBron James play each other on the NBA's biggest stage.

However...

This is no guarantee, of course. The Oklahoma City Thunder, the defending Western Conference champs, are young, and they have a big three of their own too, and one of them is the NBA leading scorer, Kevin Durant. And we also can never remove The San Antonio Spurs from the mix, not until Greg Poppovich, Tim Duncan, Manu and Tony Parker are there at least. So until now, again, it is far from a guarantee. But imagine at least once, we'll get to see that Lakers-Heat rivalry play out on the floor in June.
