Power Rankings: Player Feedback
Nation's top players comment on their team's ranking
Yesterday, Five-Star unveiled its inaugural Preseason High School Power Rankings. Breaking the mold, we decided to include prep institutions such as the Tilton School and Brewster Academy in the mix. Traditional 4-year schools will have a much harder time cracking our Top 25. Even though the presence of some 5th year/Prep schools hurt their chances of cracking the initial list, St. Benedict's guard Tyler Ennis still thinks his squad will be right in the mix.
"I think we are going to surprise some teams in the top 25 definitely," Ennis said. "There should be only one ranking since most teams play each other anyway."
He's right. The No. 3 Tilton School (a 5th Year/Prep school) will take on Friends Central (a 4-year traditional program) later this season. No. 7 Bishop Gorman (tradtional 4-year) will duel against No. 2 Findlay Prep (non-traditional 4-year) later in the season as well.
Ennis and his team have a big chance at making some noise when they play No. 4 Huntington Prep later in the year. The 4-year non-traditional program has the roster to finish at No. 1 by the end of the season.
"We're excited [about the number 4 spot] just means we have 3 more spots to move up," Huntington Prep forward Elijah Macon said.
The Express plays a national schedule with games slated against the likes of Tilton and No. 6 Simeon. Macon noted that the team's toughest matchup will come against Kyle Anderson's No. 9 St. Anthony squad. Not too far behind the Friars is Grace Prep at No. 15.
"At the end of the year we're going to be No. 1," said Five-Star rated Grace Prep center Isaiah Austin.
Coming out strong every game, Austin believes, will be the key to the season. With tilts against No. 19 Fort Bend Travis, Julius Randle's Prestonwood Christian Academy and No. 5 Oak Hill - the chance to make that proclamation come true is there.
With all these teams aiming for the top spot, Brewster's knows it will be under fire all season.
"We’ll need to lay it on the line every game because we know we’re going to be everyone’s Super Bowl," head coach Jason Smith said.
Everybody is gunning for that number 1 spot, who will get it? Stay tuned every Wednesday to catch our updated Power Rankings weekly. Let the games begin
