16U Power Rankings: Week 16: August 1, 2012

SCAN passes Thad for National Championship

It just worked out that No. 1 faced No. 2 in the Fab 48 championship game this week, and when Team SCAN beat Team Thad by three points, it put SCAN as our No. 1 overall team in the country. All three of SCAN's teams finished the year in the top two, and the 16U team can claim that it is also our Summer National Champion.

It was between Team SCAN and Team Thad for the National Championship, and it just so happened that the two of them met in the ttile game at Fab 48. With SCAN walking off a winner, they get the nod for the No. 1 spot.

If Thad had beaten Team SCAN, they likely would have stayed at No. 1 and won the Summer National Championship. Instead, a three-point loss means Anton Beard and Leron Black's team take home No. 2.

Team Takeover ascends to the three spot by winning the Live in AC tournament last week.
4		Louisville Magic Louisville, Ky.	Key Championships: Spiece Run N Slam, Kentucky state tournament, adidas Invitational, adidas Super 64 Key Wins: Team Thad, Florida Elite, Compton Magic Key Loss: D.C. Assault
The Louisville Magic pulled off the rare feat of winning the adidas Invitational and Super 64. As a result, they finish with a top four ranking.
5	8	Texas Titans Dallas, Texas	Key Wins: Houston Hoops, Southern Stampede, Team Thad, CP3, Team Takeover, Mac Irvin Fire, Southern Stampede Key Losses: Team Texas Elite, The City
If you look at the quality wins that the Texas Titans have on their resume, it is clear that they belong in the top five.
6	9	Southern Stampede Atlanta, Ga.	Key Wins: Each 1 Teach 1, Team Final, CP3, Team Texas Elite, Team SCAN Key Losses: Stackhouse Elite
Southern Stampede ended their season by winning the Power 24 tournament in Atlanta.
7	3	BABC Boston, Mass.	Key Championships: Massachusetts State title, Boston Shootout, AAU National
There's no denying that BABC had a good year and is worthy of a top ten ranking, but it doesn't quite have the resume of a top five team.
8	5	Houston Hoops Houston, Tex.	Key Win: Oakland Soldiers Key Losses: Oakland Soldiers, Texas Titans (17U), Meanstreets
Houston Hoops made it to the Final Four at the Las Vegas Classic before losing to the Oakland Soldiers.
9	10	MoKan Elite Kansas City, Mo.	Key Championships: KC Classic Key Loss: Houston Hoops (Next Level), King James Summer Showcase, KC Hardwood Classic
MoKan Elite finished an impressive year by winning the KC Hardwood Classic.
10	7	Team Loaded Richmond, Va.	Key Wins: Dallas Showtyme, D.C. Assault, Utah Hoops Key Losses: Las Vegas Prospects, Team SCAN
Team Loaded's season is over, but it didn't end before they could knock off another ranked team — Utah Hoops.
11	11	All-Ohio Red Columbus, Ohio	Key Wins: CIA Bounce, Mac Irvin Fire Key Losses: Mac Irvin Fire, Team Takeover
All-Ohio Red played up at 17U Nationals, which might prepare them for next year at an older age group.
12	13	Indiana Elite Bloomington, Ind.	Key Championship: Best Buy Summer Classic Key Loss: Ray Allen Select
Indiana Elite had a mediocre trip to Super 64, but they still finish as one of the 15 best teams in the country.
13	12	Playaz Basketball Club (N.J.) Paterson, N.J.	Key Championship: Delaware Memorial Day Classic Key Loss: Houston Hoops, The City
The Playaz were hoping to win the inauguarl Live in AC tournament, but Team Takeover dashed their hopes in the second round.
14	18	CP3 All-Stars Winston-Salem, N.C.	Key Wins: CP3 Invitational Key Losses: Mac Irvin, Texas Titans, CIA Bounce
After doing a nice job at 17U Nationals, it is clear that the CP3 All-Stars program will remain in good hands next year.
15	20	Illinois Wolves	Key Wins: Ray Allen Select, Louisville Magic, Las Vegas Prospects Key Loss: Sports U.
The Illinois Wolves make a jump by ending their season with a championship at GRBA.
16	14	St. Louis Eagles St. Louis, Mo.	Key Win: Team Penny Key Losses: Southern Stampede, Dallas Showtyme (Next Level)
The St. Louis Eagles came up short in their final tournament of the year, but overall enjoyed a successful season.
17	15	Ray Allen Select Milwaukee, Wisc.	Key Win: Florida Rams, KC Run GMC, Wisconsin Swing Key Loss: Indy Ice, Iowa Barnstormers
Ray Allen Select was once a top five team, but after coming up short at Super 64, they find themselves at No. 17.
18	16	Las Vegas Prospects Las Vegas, Nev.	Key Wins: Utah Hoops (x2) Key Losses: Dallas Showtyme, Utah Hoops
The Las Vegas Prospects went 3-2 at Fab 48.
19	17	D.C. Assault Washington, D.C.	Key Wins: Las Vegas Prospects, Team Takeover, Louisville Magic Key Losses: Dallas Showtyme, Team Loaded
D.C. Assault was bounced in the first round of Live in A.C. by Team Final.

Mac Irvin Fire had an up-and-down Las Vegas Classic where they beat Houston Hoops but lost to California Supreme.

The City was a primarily 15U team that competed with and defeated 16U teams all year long.

Andrew Wiggins and Xavier Rathan-Mayes might be gone next year, but the CIA Bounce program likely won't miss a beat with this successful 16U group sticking around.

Utah Hoops ends the season with its highest ranking of the year at No. 23.
24	23	Dream Vision Las Vegas, Nev.	Key Championship: EBO 17U Key Losses: Eric Gordon All-Stars, Atlanta Celtics, Rens
Dream Vision struggled down the stretch and was not able to gain any real momentum all year.

SC Raptors Elite had an excellent July and round out the final 16U power rankings.
