South Kent Takes Leap in Power Rankings

Another week of Power Rankings and the pre-season rankings are officially getting thrown out the window. Ranked teams such as Tilton and New Hampton came away as losers this past week. Fort Bend Travis' 2-point loss to Willowridge knocks them out of the rankings and allows for some new entrants. Expect things to turn up a notch this week with big time contests being played all over the nation, including No. 3 Oak Hill vs. No. 14 Grace Prep in Washington, D.C.

Record: 5-0 Key Wins: Marcus Weekly Report: The nation’s second best team finally has a statement win to prove its spot near the top of our polls. This week, Findlay grinded out an eight-point win over previously ranked No. 11 Marcus (47-39) to remain undefeated. Up Next: 12/8 vs. Eldorado
3	4	Oak Hill Academy 4-year traditional Mouth of Wilson, VA
Record: 14-0 Key Wins: La Lumiere Weekly Report: Oak Hill has played more games than anyone in our rankings, but still has not been challenged. They crushed Hales Franciscan on Friday, then handled La Lumiere on Saturday in the Marshall County Hoopfest. Up Next: 12/10 vs. Grace Prep
4	6	Simeon Career Academy 4-year traditional Chicago, Ill.
Record: 2-0 Weekly Report: Simeon got started this week by beating Hillcrest in front of a national audience, then topped Notre Dame by 20 on Monday. It gets tougher next week though with a Top-10 showdown with Huntington Prep. Up Next: 12/17 vs. Huntington Prep

Record: 4-1 Key Wins: Huntington Prep Key Losses: South Kent Weekly Report: Yes, Tilton lost to South Kent this week and that is why they dropped in our polls. But their 74-63 defeat was without the services of Georges Niang, who was suspended for the game. Overall, Tilton missed out on a chance for a big win, but the loss doesn’t hurt too bad. Up Next: 12/7 vs. Worcester

Record: 0-0 Weekly Report: This will be the last week off for our team from Las Vegas, as Shabazz Muhammad and Co. are inching closer to their first game. Up Next: 12/9 vs. Durango
7	9	St. Anthony 4-year traditional Jersey City, NJ
Record: 0-0 Weekly Report: St. Anthony is off for a couple more weeks before finally opening play with back-to-back away games against Emily Fischer Academy and Trenton Catholic. Next Up: 12/16 vs. Emily Fischer Academy
8	16	South Kent 5th year/prep school South Kent, CT
Record: 5-0 Key Wins: Tilton Weekly Report: South Kent moved up with a huge win over Tilton this week, behind Ricardo Ledo’s 19 consecutive points. The game did turn ugly though, as a brawl forced the refs to call the game with about a half minute left on the clock. Up Next: 12/7 vs. St. Thomas More

Record: 6-1 Key Losses: Tilton, Weekly Report: Wesley Christian had to forfeit its game against Huntington Prep, but Huntington was back on the court to beat Marietta College JV a couple days later. Up Next: 12/10 vs. St. Ignatius
10	10	Miller Grove 4-year traditional Lithonia, GA
Record: 3-0 Key Wins: Milton Weekly Report: Won their annual rivalry contest against Southwest DeKalb last night. It took 15 points from Tony Parker and overtime to win. They also took down Mays 81-44 in the past week. Next Up: 12/9 at Lithonia
11	12	DeMatha Catholic 4-year traditional Hyattsville, MD
Record: 2-0 Weekly Report: The Stags started out the season with a couple of wins over Magruder and Glenelg County. The first big time test comes this weekend versus Syracuse-bound big man Dajuan Coleman and Jamesville Dewitt. Up Next: 12/8 vs. Don Bosco Cristo Rey

Record: 2-0 Weekly Report: Justin Anderson made a couple of highlight reels with his performances in the Mustangs opening weekend. They DMV crew got the season off to a good start beating Hayfield 65-23 and Woodbridge 92-49. Up Next: 12/6 vs. Friendship Collegiate Academy
13	14	Mater Dei High School 4-year traditional Santa Ana, CA
Record: 4-0 Weekly Report: Mater Dei cruised to two victories this week: an 86-20 win over San Juan Hills and a 91-55 triumph over Capistrano Valley. We’ll be on court to see them at City of Palms in a couple weeks. Up Next: 12/10 at Palm Desert

Record: 6-0 Key Wins: Fort Bend Travis Weekly Report: Grace Prep remains undefeated for now with a chance to make noise this weekend. A matchup with highly regarded Oak Hill looms this weekend. Up Next: 12/10 vs. Oak Hill

Record: 9-1 Key Wins: Houston Yates Key Losses: Findlay Weekly Report: Marcus lost its first game of the year this week, but the sky isn’t falling for the team from Flower Mound. An eight-point loss to Findlay isn’t exactly a bad loss but we o learn that team’s with height will be an issue for them. Next Up: 12/8-10 vs. Marauder/Jaguar Classic

Record: 4-2 Key Losses: St. Thomas More Weekly Report: New Hampton had a tough week, going 1-3. They lost to St. Thomas More, then dropped a two-point decision to Bridgton. They play tonight though, so the Huskies can get back on track quickly. Next Up: 12/7 vs. Harvard U JV

Record: 4-0 Weekly Report: Kevin Boyle’s squad just got more dangerous. Highly touted sophomore D’Angelo Russell just got approved to play. He aided in the teams 83-77 road win versus Dr. Phillips last night. Up Next: 12/10 vs. Olympia

Record: 3-0 Weekly Report: North Central took care of business this week, beating Richmond (76-68) and Wallace (101-49). With a pretty light schedule, they should be able to coast for a while. Up Next: 12/9 vs. Carmel

Record: 4-0 Weekly Report: Arlington Country Day held off two unranked teams at the Big Deal Tournament (Southwind 74-71, Callaway 82-71) this week to stay unbeaten. Up Next: 12/10 at Florida Christian Institute

Record: 1-0 Weekly Report: Omar Calhoun’s team faced a tough Jefferson squad in its season opener. The Royals found themselves down seven early on the road, but came back to secure an 11-point win. Up Next: 12/10 vs. Boys and Girls

Record: 2-0 Weekly Report: In the season opener, Perry Ellis and Terrence Moore combined for 41 of Heights’s 71 points in a 12-point win over North. Last night’s 9-point victory over Kapuan Mt. Carmelo keeps their loss column clean. Next Up: 12/9 vs. West

Record: 7-0 Key Wins: Southwest DeKalb Weekly Report: Their toughest competition came in an 8-point win over Greater Atlanta Christian. Their blowout win over Southwest DeKalb looks even better after they took Miller Grove to overtime last night. Next Up: 12/13 vs. Druid Hills

Record: 5-0 Key Wins: Long Beach Poly Weekly Report: Our newly-minted ranked team gives the Power Rankings more west coast flavor. Their biggest win was by 5 over Long Beach Poly led by highly touted junior Jordan Bell. Up Next: 12/7 “The Tournament”
24		Gonzaga College 4-year traditional Washington, D.C.
Record: 1-0 Weekly Report: The Eagles got their season off to a good start this week and crack our Power Rankings for the first time this year. They beat Ballou 69-50, and after a few more games against lesser competition, they have a daunting schedule ahead. Next Up: 12/9 vs. Central Catholic

Record: 6-1 Key Wins: Vermont Academy Key Losses: Oak Hill Weekly Report: La Lumiere would have skyrocketed in our rankings if it took advantage of its schedule and beat Oak Hill. Regardless, their win over Vermont Academy a few weeks ago shows they are for real. Up Next: 12/10 vs. St. John’s Military at Converse Shootout
