High School Power Rankings: December 7, 2011

South Kent Takes Leap in Power Rankings

Another week of Power Rankings and the pre-season rankings are officially getting thrown out the window. Ranked teams such as Tilton and New Hampton came away as losers this past week. Fort Bend Travis' 2-point loss to Willowridge knocks them out of the rankings and allows for some new entrants. Expect things to turn up a notch this week with big time contests being played all over the nation, including No. 3 Oak Hill vs. No. 14 Grace Prep in Washington, D.C.

Dropped Out: Fort Bend Travis, Vermont Academy.

Jumping In: Gonzaga College, Loyola

 It was a laughably easy week for our No. 1 team. After blowout wins against Leadership Prep (121-51) and Holderness (101-44), their closest game this week was a 45-point nailbitter over Rise Academy.

Weekly Report: The nation’s second best team finally has a statement win to prove its spot near the top of our polls. This week, Findlay grinded out an eight-point win over previously ranked No. 11 Marcus (47-39)  to remain undefeated.

Key Wins: La Lumiere
Weekly Report: Oak Hill has played more games than anyone in our rankings, but still has not been challenged. They crushed Hales Franciscan on Friday, then handled La Lumiere on Saturday in the Marshall County Hoopfest.

Weekly Report: Simeon got started this week by beating Hillcrest in front of a national audience, then topped Notre Dame by 20 on Monday. It gets tougher next week though with a Top-10 showdown with Huntington Prep.

Key Losses: South Kent
Weekly Report: Yes, Tilton lost to South Kent this week and that is why they dropped in our polls. But their 74-63 defeat was without the services of Georges Niang, who was suspended for the game. Overall, Tilton missed out on a chance for a big win, but the loss doesn’t hurt too bad.

Weekly Report: This will be the last week off for our team from Las Vegas, as Shabazz Muhammad and Co. are inching closer to their first game.

Weekly Report: South Kent moved up with a huge win over Tilton this week, behind Ricardo Ledo’s 19 consecutive points. The game did turn ugly though, as a brawl forced the refs to call the game with about a half minute left on the clock.

Weekly Report: Won their annual rivalry contest against Southwest DeKalb last night. It took 15 points from Tony Parker and overtime to win. They also took down Mays 81-44 in the past week.

Weekly Report: The Stags started out the season with a couple of wins over Magruder and Glenelg County. The first big time test comes this weekend versus Syracuse-bound big man Dajuan Coleman and Jamesville Dewitt.

Weekly Report: Justin Anderson made a couple of highlight reels with his performances in the Mustangs opening weekend. They DMV crew got the season off to a good start beating Hayfield 65-23 and Woodbridge 92-49.

Weekly Report: Marcus lost its first game of the year this week, but the sky isn’t falling for the team from Flower Mound. An eight-point loss to Findlay isn’t exactly a bad loss but we o learn that team’s with height will be an issue for them.

Weekly Report: New Hampton had a tough week, going 1-3. They lost to St. Thomas More, then dropped a two-point decision to Bridgton. They play tonight though, so the Huskies can get back on track quickly.

Weekly Report: Our newly-minted ranked team gives the Power Rankings more west coast flavor. Their biggest win was by 5 over Long Beach Poly led by highly touted junior Jordan Bell.

Weekly Report: La Lumiere would have skyrocketed in our rankings if it took advantage of its schedule and beat Oak Hill. Regardless, their win over Vermont Academy a few weeks ago shows they are for real.
