Five-Star Basketball - H.S. Power Rankings: Week 14: February 15, 2012

Shakeup in the lower half of the rankings with marquee games looming

Among the top of the rankings, there was no shifting. Everybody proved their worth including St. Anthony with its one-point win over Huntington Prep. However, the bottom half saw some moves, Ridgeway avenged an early loss to Southwind and jump into the rankings. Gonzaga, suffering a blowout loss to DeMatha and a 2-point home L to Paul VI were knocked out. With the playoffs in action, these next couple of weeks will be telling. The game to watch this week - Tilton at Brewster. Stay tuned.

McDonald’s All-American Tyler Lewis dropped 13 assists in their win over Veritas. Next Up: 2/16 vs. Ignatios Prep

Record: 23-1 Key Wins: Simeon, Marcus, Bishop Gorman Key Losses: La Lumiere Results: Beat Trinity Christian, 82-47; beat ABCD Prep, 111-75 Weekly Report: Their impressive 82-47 win over Trinity Christian (the same team that defeated Grace Prep) is just another impressive W for the Pilots. Next Up: 2/17 vs. Westwind Prep

Record: 24-3 Key Wins: Notre Dame Prep, New Hampton, Huntington Prep Key Losses: South Kent Results: Beat Phillips Academy, 66-62; beat Christian Faith Academy, 66-48; beat Kimball Union Academy, 67-55 Weekly Report: Their win over Andrew Wiggins and a Huntington Prep team that just fought to a one-point loss to St. Anthony, continues to show that Tilton is a force. The Rams' Monday night showdown with Brewster has to be the game of the week. Next Up: 2/15 vs. Phillips Exeter Academy

Record: 20-0 Key Wins: Huntington Prep, St. Benedict’s, Miller Grove Results: Beat Columbia 59-37; beat Huntington Prep 50-49 Weekly Report: Kyle Anderson proved that he could lead his team against a wave of talented Express players in a back-and-forth 50-49 victory. Record: 21-2 Key Losses: Tilton Results: Lost to St. Anthony, 50-49 Weekly Report: Their early-season loss to Tilton and their recent one-point loss shows that this team is still one of the best in the country, even with a two-loss record. Record: 21-2 Key Wins: Findlay Results: Beat St. John’s Northwestern Military, 65-62 Weekly Report: The Lakers' win over Findlay Prep looks better week by week. They just need to keep their winning streak alive for the remainder of the season. Next Up: 2/21 vs. Gary Lighthouse

Record: 26-1 Key Losses: St. Anthony Results: Beat Lawrenceville School, 88-59; beat Satellite Academy, 88-71; beat Redemption Christian Academy, 86-37; beat Solebury, 95-45 Weekly Report: The Gray Bees knocked out traditional state power St. Patrick, 81-53 and have the playoffs ahead. Record: 17-6 Key Wins: St. Thomas More, New Hampton Key Loss: Tilton Results: Beat South Kent 92-79, Weekly Report: Unlike most teams, this squad added a top-10 caliber player in Steven Adams mid-season. They have a chance to make a championship run here to finish the year, but will need Sam Cassell Jr. and Myles Davis to continue their standout performances. Next Up: 2/17 vs. CJEOTO

Record: 21-2 Key Wins: Gonzaga College, DeMatha Key Losses: Oak Hill Results: Beat Our Lady of Good Counsel, 66-63; beat Gonzaga 85-83; beat St. Mary’s Ryken, 64-51 Weekly Report: Paul VI continues to show that they are one of the top teams in the nation and not just in the region. They beat Gonzaga on the road this past weekend and have a huge matchup at DeMatha ahead. Next Up: 2/19 at St. John’s

Record: 16-2 Key Losses: Marcus, Coolidge Results: Beat Linden, 70-52, Weekly Report: With Arlington Country Day losing Torian Graham, the Mustangs should win out. Justin Anderson is looking to end a splendid high school career on a positive note. Next Up: 2/19 vs. Takoma Academy

Record: 25-1 Key Wins: Southwind, Montverde Key Loss: Southwind Results: Beat Southwind, 68-56; beat Melrose, 83-79 Weekly Report: The Memphis school avenged its early loss to Southwind with a win this past week. Add that to their win over Montverde and there is no reason this team shouldn’t be here.

Record: 21-3 Key Losses: Grace Prep, Hagerty, Ridgeway Weekly Report: Kasey Hill and Montverde finished their season last week by capping a five-game win streak.
19	19	Chester 4-year traditional Chester, Pa.
Record: 22-0 Results: Beat Glen Mills, 74-30; beat Neptune, 74-62 Weekly Report: Chester remains undefeated after two wins this past week and now the state tournament looms. No doubt this team is good but their lack of a signature win will hurt them.

Record: 21-4 Key Wins: Bishop Gorman, Lone Peak Key Losses: Tift County Results: Beat Roswell, 73-57 Weekly Report: They took down another local foe in Roswell this week and the 5A region and state tournaments are next up.

Record: 23-4 Key Wins: DeMatha, Whitney Young (x2), Miller Grove Key Losses: Prestonwood Christian, Mater Dei, Findlay Prep, Milton Results: Beat Clark, 86-73; beat Bonanza, 96-55 Weekly Report: The Gaels added two more wins before the playoffs start tonight. A state title would be a nice way to cap a great high school career from Shabazz Muhammad. Next Up: 2/15 vs. Cimarron-Memorial

Record: 22-4 Key Wins: Grace Prep, Westbury Christian, Bishop Gorman Results: Beat Bishop Dunne, 75-63 Weekly Report: The runs of Julius Randle and Zach Peters are bringing them back into the conversation for best in Texas. They split the two games with Grace Prep and have rattled off 12 wins in their past 13. Next Up: 2/17 vs. Houston Christian

Record: 24-3 Key Wins: Neumann-Goretti, Gonzaga Key Losses: Paul VI, Gonzaga, Bishop Gorman Results: Beat Bishop Ireton, 64-47; beat Gonzaga, 76-47; beat Bishop O’Connell, 55-49 Weekly Report: Three wins this week, highlighted by a 29-point rout of Gonzaga, propels DeMatha back into our power rankings. Overall, DeMatha has won six straight since a tough road loss to Paul VI back in January. They’ll get a rematch later next week. Next Up: 2/17 vs. Bishop McNamara
