14U Power Rankings: Week 3: April 25, 2012

Dunk Dog takes top spot with Real Deal looming

This week, we welcome two new teams to the rankings, as well as a new No. 1 in Dunk Dog. Seattle Rotary Style breaks in after taking down former No. 1 Cali Style at the Big Foot Hoops Las Vegas Grand Opening event, while the Karolina Diamonds sneak in at the bottom — a reward for a solid start to the year.

1 2 up
New Orleans, La.

Dunk Dog was idle last week, but they take over the No. 1 spot in the country with Cali Style falling out west. Khalea Turner and Co. will be tested this weekend at Real Deal in the Rock.

2 3 up
New York, N.Y.

Team SCAN continues to dominate the younger age groups. The 14s advanced to the title game at the Hall of Fame New England Championship where they would have faced their own 15U team, had that game actually happened.

3 5 up
Boo Williams

Boo Williams has yet to face a true test, so only time will tell if they are worthy of their No. 3 ranking.

4 1 down
California Basketball Club
Los Angeles, Calif.

Cali Style drops a few spots after their loss last week. Is that a bit much? Maybe. But that just means they'll have to keep winning in order to make up ground. They played up with the 16s at Pangos and lost to the eventual champs.

5 6 up
Phoenix, Ariz.

Team Bibby did not play last week, but will be at the Vegas Elite Invitational this weekend with a chance to climb into the top three.

6 4 down
Las Vegas, Nev.

Dream Vision played up with the 15s at the adidas VIP Exclusive Run, and that needs to be taken into account. That said, losses to a good Compton Magic 15U team and the Mass Rivals 15s represent missed opportunities.

7 up
Seattle Rotary Style
Seattle, Wash.

Seattle Rotary Style is the first team from the state of Washington to crack the rankings this year, and they did so in convincing fashion. They knocked off Cali Style at the Big Foot Hoops Las Vegas Grand Opening en route to a championship and unbeaten weekend.

8 7 down
Washington, D.C.

Any time you get a chance to play a ranked team at the 14U level, you better take advantage. Team Takeover did not do that, and lost to D.C. Assault at the Pitt Jam Fest. To make matters worse, Assault has since fallen out of the rankings.

9 9 none

The Playaz were off last week and just barely keep a spot in the top ten.

10 up

We've been hearing a lot about the Karolina Diamonds recently and we think it's time they got some credit. A couple weeks ago they advanced to bracket play in their state tournament, which will happen this coming weekend. We'll see if they're still in our rankings next week.

Best of the Rest

Georgia Stars, Houston Defenders, Team Penny, Compton Magic, D.C. Assault
